Wheeling Park High School teachers and coaches have only great things to say about senior Makel Galloway.

Galloway is a dedicated student athlete who maintains a 4.4 GPA. He loves being a member of the Patriots boys basketball team, and he is one of the team’s captains. He said basketball is special to him because he is on the team with some of his closest friends. He also speaks highly of head coach Michael Jebbia.

“I’ve really enjoyed it (basketball), and a lot of my best friends play,” Galloway said. “It’s been great, and I like playing for coach Jebbia. He’s a great coach and a great person. I enjoy being around him.”

Galloway said his favorite class is English with teacher Jamie Johnson. Both Johnson and Jebbia are proud of Galloway for his dedication in the classroom and on the court.

“I’ve been his homeroom teacher for four years, and he is the student I’ve been waiting for,” Johnson said. “He doesn’t settle for good enough. He wants to do the best he can do, and I truly appreciate the effort he puts fourth. Makel does his best all the time, and that is all you can ask for from a student. That’s who he is.”

“Makel Galloway is one of the hardest working kids we have coached in the past 16 years,” Jebbia added. “He is a leader and one of the captains of our team. More importantly, he is a leader in our school. He has always carried a very high GPA, and I have no doubt Makel has a very bright future ahead of him.”

Galloway said he has enjoyed the options made available to him at Wheeling Park High School. He is particularly fond of being a member of the school’s Health Sciences & Technology Academy (HSTA), and he has enjoyed Park’s Beyond Education Program, which encourages students to consider a career in education.

“There’s a great school atmosphere here at Park,” Galloway said. “There are a lot of opportunities to be involved in a lot of things.

“There are a lot of great teachers here, too,” he added. “I appreciate the teachers. They are really nice and friendly, and they are very helpful.”

Galloway said he plans to attend college where could possibly study physical therapy. He is considering West Virginia University, Marshall University and Bethany College.

Galloway lives in Wheeling with his mother Lynnette Lee. He has two brothers – Ryel and Rashad Lee. His sister is Makiah Galloway.
