While Ohio County Schools’ 2025–2026 WV GSA results remained largely consistent with last year’s overall performance, we want our community to recognize something that can be easy to miss when looking only at a single proficiency percentage:
There are countless small victories happening in classrooms across Ohio County every single day.
Here are a few things we are especially proud of:
• Ohio County Schools has an extremely low number of students in the “Does Not Meet Proficiency” category. While some students may not yet be counted in the overall “Meets Proficiency” percentage, this measure reflects meaningful progress in learning and improved outcomes for students across our schools.
• Every grade level in Ohio County Schools averaged higher than the statewide average.
• Several elementary programs achieved 70% proficiency or higher in both Math and ELA.
• Ohio County ranks among the top 10 counties in the state in both Math and ELA for grades 3, 4, and 5.
• In grades 6, 7, and 8, Ohio County ranks among the top 10 counties in ELA and the top 20 counties in Math.
• Ohio County ranks among the top three counties in West Virginia in 11th-grade Math and among the top 15 in 11th-grade ELA.
• Wheeling Park High School ranks as the 10th-highest-achieving school in West Virginia in Math.
Data matters. Accountability matters. And we will always be honest about the areas where our students and schools need to grow.
But data is also about recognizing progress.
Behind every percentage is a student. Behind every score is a teacher. Behind every point of growth is a classroom where someone is working hard to help a child move forward.
