Congratulations to Bridge Street Middle School math teacher Amy Ritz on being named the 2023 Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce Middle School Teacher of the Year!!!

Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce Director of Marketing and Communications Laurie Conway announced Ritz as the winner at Monday’ meeting of the Ohio County Board of Education. Ritz has been a teacher for the past 15 years, and she has been a seventh-grade math teacher at Bridge Street since 2021.

Conway said that Ritz has a unique approach to teaching. She said that what makes Ritz an excellent educator is that she takes challenging content and makes it relatable to students.

“In just two years (at Bridge Street) she’s become a beacon of educational value and mentor to her fellow teachers,” Conway said.

Conway went on to say that a number of Bridge Street students feel that Ritz is the best teacher they’ve ever had.

“They’ve said ‘I’ve never understood math like this,’” Conway said. “’She waits for me to get it before she keeps going, and then she always comes back to check in.’”

Ritz was applauded by the audience following her announcement as a Chamber Teacher of the Year. She was congratulated by Ohio County Schools Superintendent Kimberly Miller and Bridge Street Principal Jessica Broski-Birch.
