Dr. Miller is shown with students at Woodsdale Elementary School

It’s an exciting time at Woodsdale Elementary School.

The school held its Community Open House on March 1, and its more than $9 million in renovations were on display. The upgrades include a new state-of-the-art media center, Maker Space, new cafeteria with large windows, security and upgraded classrooms.

Ohio County Schools Superintendent Kim Miller toured Woodsdale Elementary earlier that day as part of her annual superintendent’s visits. Ohio County Board of Education President Andy Garber, board members David Croft and Pete Chacalos and Ohio County Schools administrators also took part in the tour and discussion.

Woodsdale Elementary School Principal Ashlea Minch discussed the positive impact the renovations have had on the school’s students and staff members. She thanked the Board of Education, Ohio County Schools administration and the community for the improved facilities. Minch said staff morale has increased and poor student behavior has greatly declined.

“The investment has paid off,” Minch said. “We have total buy in from the students and the staff. Everyone sees what’s been done here, and they are so proud.”

Woodsdale Counselor Allyson Kangisser and media teacher Sandra Wiseman discussed the school’s academic focus, its utilization of technology and student proficiency. Woodsdale’s fifth-grade student council members also spoke to Miller and board members about things at the school they enjoy. They also took part in green screen photos with Miller and board members.

Miller said she truly enjoyed her visit to Woodsdale Elementary School.
