4th grade students seated and posing with teachers
"It's not about us; it's about the kids," 4th grade SES student Marcus explains with a smile.

If you need a feel-good holiday story, look no further than Steenrod Elementary School.

The 4th grade class is currently working on their "Caring and Sharing" project.  A yearly tradition for Mrs. Hohman and Ms. Craig, the class selects two anonymous children from the The Salvation Army USA’s Angel Tree.

During the duration of the project, students come up with creative ways to earn money to support their two selected recipients.

4th grade explained that they've shoveled snow, participated in craft fairs, dug through couch cushions, helped at a family business, and even the good old, "I just asked my mom really nicely if she would donate."

Their fundraising comes to fruition this upcoming Tuesday evening: 4th grade students have the option of meeting at The Highlands for an after hours field trip to make their purchases.

We know good deeds don't need documented: they're happening throughout our schools every day.  We just wanted to take a moment to shout out the 4th grade class collectively and the two teachers that have turned kindness, empathy, (and entrepreneurship) into a yearly, memorable tradition.
