Women’s Giving Circle
Women's Giving Circle, through the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley, is giving back to two schools in Ohio County!

“Jazz up the Stalls” will benefit Warwood School! A number of students felt that the restrooms at Warwood School could use some positive attention.  Trinity, a 6th grader states, “We thought it would be good to motivate the girls.  If we make the stalls look good, then people will feel good!”  Through the Communities in Schools program and with the help of Viking Enterprises (Warwood’s simulated workplace), the stalls will soon get a facelift with fresh paint, positive artwork and quote, and brand new receptacles for hygiene products.  “We know this program will encourage healthy development and autonomy,” states CIS.  Thank you students and Warwood’s amazing CIS leaders, Mrs. Weekely and Ms. Kristen!

Madison Elementary School is also benefiting from the generosity of The Women’s Giving Circle.  They are supporting the “Owl Pals with Madison Gals” mentoring program. Madison’s school counselor was inspired by her own daughter to begin this program when her daughter was in college looking to give back to the community!  Mrs. Watt Dougherty elaborates, “Since 2015, Madison school counselor, Jessica Watt Dougherty has collaborated with Nu Theta Chi Omega Sorority at West Liberty University to offer mentoring events for girls in grades three, four and five. The Owl Pals program is designed to meet three Saturdays each Semester. The little girls attend and are paired with college aged women who mentor them. Each year we plan events that include activities such as cooking classes, zoo visits, WLU campus tours, career fairs, nutrition/health lessons, arts, science and music exposure and life experiences that the girls would not otherwise participate in. Most importantly, during the program, relationships are being fostered that result in healthy female connections that empower young girls to step off of their current paths to explore new ideas for their futures. Since the program is almost a decade old, we are able to know that MANY of our former Owl Pals have succeeded in graduating high school and attending college.”

We are thankful for these community sponsorships that allow Ohio County Schools to offer additional experiences for our students.  We are thankful for a community that supports education!
