Ms. Grace Norton

A celebration of life for Ohio County Board of Education member Grace Norton will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on June 4 at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St.

Ms. Norton passed away on May 20. She was elected to the Ohio County Board of Education in 2020. She was a retired educator with four decades of experience. In that time, she taught at both West Liberty University and West Virginia Northern Community College. She taught at the middle and high school levels, and she also worked in adult education. Ms. Norton also served as a counselor and a planning coordinator, and she was once an assistant to a college president.

Ohio County Schools Superintendent Kimberly Miller said Ms. Norton was well respected as an educator and board member.

“She was a dedicated board member committed to providing the best education possible for our students. Grace was a strong person who was determined to fulfill her duties as a board member while dealing with difficult health issues. She believed in public education, and she was a lifelong learner. It was a pleasure to have worked with Ms. Norton. Our deepest sympathies go out to her family and friends.”
